Thor is a 2011 action adventure and fantasy film that was based on the famous Marvel Comic character Thor. Thor is the fourth film under the Marvel Cinematic Universe which includes Iron Man, Spider Man, Green Lantern, and Jonah Hex. The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh under the production of Marvel Studios and the distribution of Paramount Pictures. It earned a gross revenue of $444,501,162 from the budget of $150 million.
The characters of the film were portrayed by a cast ensemble which includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Colm Feore as Laufey, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Joshua Dallas as Fandral, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, and Rene Russo as Frigga.
The plot of the film centres in the Norse Mythology God of Thunder Thor who was about to be crowned as king of Asgard but was not able to continue with the ceremony because of the break in of the Frost Giants. Due to his impulsiveness and too much confidence that he was banished by his father into earth as a mortal and was accompanied by his Hammer. However Thor was not allowed to wield his Hammer until he proves that he is worthy to be its weilder.
Staying as a humble human in earth, Thor adapts and softens and later on understands the meaning of love and caring for others which had likely made him worthy to be Hammer’s wielder and thus letting him return to Asgard and protect it from the selfish plans of his brother Loki.
Thor receive overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics all over the world and was announced by Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Pictures to have a second sequel which will be releases in 2013.
