The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is another successful movie that stars Nicolas Cage. It is 2010 fantasy adventure film that was produced by Jerry Bruckeimer and directed by Jon Turteltaub. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice was distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and released last July of 2010. It earned a total gross revenue of $215,283,742 worldwide.
The plot of the film centered in the present era where an evil wizard was accidentally set loose from its binding and restraining spell and was trying to spread evil. Baltazar Blake, a good wizard and one of Merlin’s students was appointed by Merlin to find the heir to inherit Merlin’s powers. He had traveled from generation to generation from centuries to locate this heir and later found the heir to Merlin’s powers in Manhattan. It is important for Baltazar Blake to teach the heir how to use sorcery and give him the powers of the great wizard Merlin left for him. The heir is said to be the only one that can defeat the evil sorcerer and sorceress. However, the problem is that Merlin’s heir seems to be still reluctant with the idea of inheriting the powers of the great wizard.
The film’s main stars were Nicolas Cage as Baltazar Blake, Jay Baruchel as David Stutler, the heir to Merlin’s power, Alfred Molina as the evil sorcerer Maxin Horvath, Alice Krige as the evil sorceress and Merlin and Baltazar’s greatest enemy, James Stephens as the great wizard Merlin, Monica Belluci as Veronica Gorloisen – a good sorceress who is the love interest of Baltazar and is also one of Merlin’s students, and Teresa Palmer who is the love interest of David.
Both the film and the casts received mixed review responses from the critics. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice scored third place in the overall category of Sword and Sorcery Movies of all time worldwide.
